The Jews of China
The China has hosted a Jewish community for upwards of 1500 Years!
When I was a student at New York University, I met Jews from around the world. One day I was chatting with a Chinese student, and was surprised to discover he was Jewish. I had known about the Jews of China after reading a book by Pearl S Buck about the Jews of China. But to meet a co-religionist whose family had lived in Kaifeng for hundreds of years, whose story resembled that of the character in Pearl S Bucks book, really blew me away. Anyhow, small remnant of Chinese Jews are now on the move around the world.
If you discover you Jewish ancestry, your family may have come from the Kaifeng community.
Chinese people with Jewish ancestry may have gotten it during the colonial days. Many Jews from Europe made their way to Asia to trade, in particular, to Hong Kong. Many of these Jewish men took Chinese wives and produce Eurasian Jewish children. Bruce Lee, famed kung fu star, is reported to descend from a Dutch Jew living in Hong Kong.
In addition to this, there was a time when Russian Jew fled to China. And they too often took Chinese wives.
